A Summer Love Triangle
By lexi7316, Westport, CT

It was July, the summer of 2007. Briny air clung to my skin as I stretched my towel out over the sand. The sun was hot but not uncomfortable. I reached into my beach bag, excited to have a free day at the beach. I pulled a tattered, mildew-scented paperback out of my bag and groaned. Maybe this wouldn't be such a restful day after all.

My dad is a voracious reader, and for his fiftieth birthday I had created a private book club for the two of us. He is constantly traveling for business, so I thought it would be a great way to spend time together doing something we both love. The first book on our list was Charles Dickens' David Copperfield. My vision had been lofty: we would read side by side in huge leather chairs and discuss interesting themes while sipping cappuccino and educating ourselves with great literature.

Dad had embraced my vision and plowed through the heavy tome with gusto. In fact, three months had passed since he finished the book, while I hadn't gotten past the first three long, dull pages.

The Toughest Trial
By Sam Z., Eau Claire, WI

Seeing the title, you are probably thinking of some physical challenge, pushing myself to some limit: running a distance, lifting a huge amount of weight, or solving a brain-bending puzzle. It turns out my challenge was what millions face almost every day: starvation.

Was I lost in the woods, trapped, or just plain crazy? I guess you could regard me as a few marbles short of a bagful for doing it. Are you thinking I had a death wish? I doubt you are thinking of the right reason: I wanted to help others.

Now I bet you are confused. How could I help others by starving myself? To get an idea of how people in Africa are suffering, every year my youth group holds The 30-Hour Famine – we don't eat for 30 hours. Sponsors donate money that we send to people in Africa. We are allowed to drink water and juice, although some people in Africa who really are starving may go more than 30 hours without liquids.

College of the Week: Brandeis University

Name: Brandeis University
Location: Waltham, MA
Website: www.brandeis.edu

Description: It may seem like a lot of Brandeis students really hate their school, but deep down, most know they would not be happy anywhere else. Some students seem to be bitter when they first get to Brandeis because they are either here since it made financial sense-Brandeis is quite generous when it comes to financial aid allotment-or because Brandeis was their third or fourth choice, and they got rejected from the Ivies or NESCAC schools. But after a little time to get adjusted, that bitterness soon subsides. You must work to have a positive experience at Brandeis, more so than at a lot of other colleges. There are so many opportunities out there, but you need to be willing to put forth the effort to get the most out of them. If you sit in your room and do nothing, you will get nothing out of your experience at Brandeis. Students are very studious, but they are also very involved, so the best way to meet people and have fun is to join clubs and be active in them.

"I love Brandeis," one student says. "I've made amazing friendships, have learned an enormous amount, have decided what I want to do with my life, and feel that on a day to day basis, I'm happy and lucky to be where I am."

Find out what Kevin's parents had to say about the engagement in the full story below!

Anberlin Stops By Our New York Office

Pop-rockers Anberlin recently stopped by our New York office to pay a visit to the AOL Music team and play us some songs off their latest record, 'New Surrender.'

The guys showed off not only their musical chops, but a great sense of humor as well. Drummer Nathan Young kept the mood light right off the bat with a tongue-in-cheek note about guitarist Christian McAlhaney on our whiteboard : "Christian has fear in his eyes & weakness in his heart."

"Thank God we invited the drummer," McAlhaney quipped back.
